Job 2:9-10 says, “Then his wife said to him, ‘Do you still hold fast to your integrity? Curse God and die!’ But he said to her, ‘You speak as one of the foolish women speaks. Shall we indeed accept good from God, and shall we not accept adversity?’ In all this Job did not sin with his lips.”
Job’s response to his situation in the midst of his challenges shows the condition of his heart. I mean, his response shows the true content of his heart. As Christians, our challenges are not meant to destroy us but to prepare us for a new level in life. Challenges reveal the true nature of man’s heart. If Job’s relationship with God were based only on the material things he possessed, he would have cursed God when they were taken away. Instead, Job praised God amid his challenges.
Job gave a response in faith (Job 1:21). Just like Job, our response to challenges should be, “May the name of the Lord be praised”. Job understood the essence of challenges. Job knew that challenges are meant to improve us, to strengthen our relationship with God. Challenges are meant to cause us to go closer to God, not move away from Him. Challenges are meant to increase our desire for God; as Christians, the more challenges we face, the better equipped we are for the future. Therefore, no matter the challenge you are facing, stay true to God and draw closer to Him.
Prayer: Lord Jesus, give me the grace to honour You in my challenges. Give me the grace to draw closer to You, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
