“Do not be rash with your mouth, And let not your heart utter anything hastily before God. For God is in heaven, and you on earth; Therefore let your words be few.”
(Ecclesiastes 5:2-3)
When you open your mouth to pray, do you ever stop to think about who you are praying to? The Creator of Heaven and earth. Sadly, today most of our words that we say in prayer only entertain men but do not reach God. The greatest achievement on earth is to pray as God wants us to pray. But prayer is not saying words; the Spirit of God is the Word on our lips. When Jesus ascended to Heaven, He left us the Comforter, the Holy Spirit to help us to be faithful, obedient to Christ, to help us to pray because He is the Word on our lips. But have we received any comfort from Him? If we are honest with ourselves, we must admit that much of our conversation, prayer, preaching and teaching is nothing more than empty talk because it is not affected by the Holy Spirit. Let us ask God for the grace to shut our mouths and open our hearts to the Spirit of God so that when we come before Him in prayer, we will let our words be few.
